One question I get asked a lot as a real estate professional working in Anne Arundel County, Maryland is, “Do you have any rent to own homes available?” My first instinct used to be to sometimes cringe. I may haveĀ cringed because there are a lot of terms that are contained within lease option agreements that buyers may not be aware of at first.

Lets begin by talking about what rent to own really is; there are generally two versions: One is a lease option agreement and the second is a lease purchase agreement. The difference is that the latter requires you to make the purchase after the lease term. Home Partners of America offers a lease option agreement. At the end of the lease, or anytime before, you have the option to purchase, but are never required to. If you do not like the home–for any reason–you do not have to purchase it.
